Description
Narrative:
A Piper “Navajo” aircraft turns south after take-off from Coldfoot, Alaska, in the central Brooks Range, crossing low over the Haul Road as it climbs out of the Koyukuk Valley.
It is likely that no plane has logged more hours of service between Bush villages than the Navajo.
It is routine work, but it is far from ordinary work…. the climate, distances, and views from the office windows are extreme.
Then there are the passengers and pilots.
Some look like they’d just as soon take a chunk out of you. But (usually) everyone quickly settles into the magic of flying together through a winter landscape, even though as a friend observed, ” mmmm, there’s lots of good eating on board that airplane!”Sandy Jamieson
